Overview

This seminar gives an overview of the Configuration Management Process. The definition of basic terms and the importance of CM during the system life cycle will be discussed.

CM is one of the most important management functions during design, manufacturing, and product support, comprising spares supply manage-ment and technical documentation.

The definition of CM per MIL-Std-973 will be explained aswell as the inter-face with other standard documents.

It will be shown, what the special merits of a good CM are and what the basic requirements are.

All single „Sections“ of the CM process will be explained and what their sence and evidence is. In conjunction, prob-lems and investigations during the CM process will be shown and the costs of a CM process will be discussed.

To make the CM process efficient, there is tailoring necessary and it will be explained how to organise CM.

Finally, not only CM for hardware will be presented, but Software and Firmware are aswell candidates for CM.
